Wine tour to Areni

Description

We invite you on a one-day trip to the winemaking heart of Armenia, the Vayots Dzor region and the village of Areni. We’ll visit two different wineries, sample wonderful wines, and learn how wine is made. The Vayots Dzor region, and the village of Areni in particular, are considered the winemaking heart of Armenia, thanks to the region’s unique climate. We’ll also visit a cave where the oldest winery in the world was discovered, where wine was made 6,000 years ago. We’ll also visit the very foot of Mount Ararat. According to biblical legend, Noah, descending from Mount Ararat, planted the first grapevine here.

Program

Khor Virap – Noravank – Areni

  • Departure to Khor Virap Monastery, located at the foot of Mount Ararat, famous for being the place where the first Catholicos of All Armenians, Gregory the Illuminator, spent many years in captivity.
  • Next, our journey leads to one of Armenia’s most beautiful monasteries, Noravank, surrounded by sheer red cliffs.
  • We’ll also visit a cave where ancient wine jugs and shoes dating back some 6,000 years were recently discovered.
  • After exploring Noravank and its surroundings, we’ll visit Momik Wines or Old Bridge Winery, where we’ll enjoy a delicious lunch and a tasting of exceptional wine.
  • Following this, we’ll take a tour and tasting at Trinity Canyon Winery, another winery, where we’ll sample amazing organic wine.
  • We’ll return to Yerevan in the evening.
