Description

Tatev is one of those places in Armenia that is worth the journey even when there is only one day available. The drive from Yerevan is long, but the reward is the dramatic scenery of Syunik, the deep Vorotan Gorge and the famous Tatev Monastery, standing on the edge of a vast mountain plateau.

Tatev is reached by the Wings of Tatev cable car, crossing high above the Vorotan Gorge. On the return journey, stops are made at the ancient megalithic site of Karahunj (Zorats Karer) and Shaki Waterfall, one of Armenia’s best-known waterfalls.

If time allows, the route can also include Noravank Monastery, surrounded by the red cliffs of Vayots Dzor.

The one-day tour to Tatev is a long but rewarding journey for travelers who want to discover Syunik even when only one day is available for exploring southern Armenia.

Program

Tatev – Carahinge – Shaki Waterfall –  Yerevan

  • Early morning departure from Yerevan towards southern Armenia.
  • Arrival in Halidzor and a ride on the famous Wings of Tatev cable car across the Vorotan Gorge.
  • Visit to Tatev Monastery, one of Armenia’s most important medieval monastic complexes, dramatically located on a mountain plateau overlooking the gorge.
  • Return by cable car to Halidzor.
  • Lunch overlooking the Vorotan Gorge, depending on the selected rate.
  • Departure towards Karahunj (Zorats Karer), an ancient megalithic site near Sisian.
  • Continue to Shaki Waterfall for a short stop.
  • Return to Yerevan in the evening.
