High in the Geghama Mountains, surrounded by volcanic peaks and vast open landscapes, lies Lake Akna — one of Armenia’s most beautiful high-altitude lakes. Located at an altitude of 3,032 meters, it is far from settlements and the usual tourist routes.

From Yerevan, we head into the Geghama Mountains by 4×4 vehicle. Gradually, paved roads give way to mountain tracks and off-road terrain, while the landscape opens into volcanic highlands, summer pastures and the peaks of the Geghama Range.

The main destination of the journey is Lake Akna, where we stop for a picnic by the shore and spend some time surrounded by the mountains. During the summer months, shepherds with their herds can often be seen in these highlands, while the distance from towns and roads makes it possible to experience the scale and silence of Armenia’s mountain landscapes.
