Hike to the Smbataberd fortress

A hike to the Smbataberd fortress and the Tsaghats Kar monastery is one of the most easy and beautiful hikes. The most beautiful time here is at the beginning of summer – May and June, when there is still snow on the mountain tops and bright greenery all around. The 5th century Smbataberd fortress is located in the Vayots Dzor region. The fortress is located on the top of a hill surrounded by the slopes of a beautiful gorge, below which the Artabuin and Yeghegis rivers flow. We will start our hike from the village of Yeghegis and along a very beautiful path we will climb to the fortress, from where an amazing view of Mount Texar opens. After we enjoy these views, we will continue our hike to the Tsakhats Kar monastery complex located not far from the fortress.
