Sample 5-Day School Tour Program

The itinerary below is an example. Excursions, museums and workshops can be adjusted according to the age of the students, group composition, season and the organizers’ preferences.

Day 1: Yerevan

• Arrival in Yerevan and meeting at Zvartnots International Airport.
• Transfer to the hotel and accommodation.
• Sightseeing tour of Yerevan — an introduction to Armenia’s capital, its main landmarks and history.
• Welcome dinner.
• Free time.

Day 2: Garni – Geghard

• After breakfast, departure for Geghard Monastery, part of which is carved directly into the surrounding rock.
• Continue to Garni Temple, Armenia’s best-known surviving monument from the pre-Christian period.
• Walk into the Azat River Gorge to see the impressive basalt formations of the Symphony of Stones.
• Lunch accompanied by a lavash-making experience, where students can see how traditional Armenian flatbread is baked in a tonir.
• Return to Yerevan.
• Free time and dinner.
• Overnight in Yerevan.

Day 3: Khor Virap – Noravank – Areni

• After breakfast, departure for Khor Virap Monastery, closely associated with Gregory the Illuminator and Armenia’s adoption of Christianity. On a clear day, there are beautiful views of Mount Ararat.
• Continue through Vayots Dzor to Noravank Monastery, dramatically situated among the red cliffs of the gorge.
• Lunch.
• Visit Areni-1 Cave, one of Armenia’s important archaeological sites, where discoveries dating back several thousand years have been made.
• Return to Yerevan.
• Free time and dinner.
• Overnight in Yerevan.

Day 4: Dilijan – Haghartsin – Sevan

• After breakfast, departure for Dilijan.
• Walk around the town before continuing through the forests of Dilijan National Park to Haghartsin Monastery.
• Continue to Lake Sevan and visit Sevanavank Monastery, while learning more about one of Armenia’s best-known natural regions.
• Return to Yerevan.
• Free time and dinner.
• Overnight in Yerevan.

Day 5: Yerevan

• After breakfast, visit the History Museum of Armenia or the Matenadaran, the museum and research institute of ancient manuscripts.
• Depending on the age and interests of the group, the program can be supplemented with a creative or craft workshop, an educational activity or another interactive experience.
• Lunch.
• Transfer to Zvartnots International Airport.
