Description
May and June are among the best months for a photography journey through Armenia. Valleys are covered with flowers, bright poppy fields appear across the countryside, the mountains turn green, while snow may still remain on the highest peaks. Mount Ararat rising above flowering fields is especially striking at this time of year — and one of the signature images of the journey.
Over five days, we will photograph sunrise at Khor Virap with Mount Ararat in the background, spring flower fields, Noravank, Tatev in the early morning light, the unusual rock formations of Goris and Shaki Waterfall. We will travel by 4×4 to Smbataberd Fortress, cross the mountains towards Lake Sevan, and spend our final sunrise photographing Mount Ararat before visiting Garni, Geghard and the Symphony of Stones. A winery in Vayots Dzor, mountain roads and spontaneous stops at photogenic locations along the way complete the journey.

Program
Day 1: Yerevan
- Arrival in Yerevan.
- Meeting at Zvartnots International Airport and transfer to the hotel.
- Sightseeing tour of Yerevan, with the first opportunities for street and architectural photography.
- Welcome dinner.
- Free time.
- Overnight in Yerevan.
Day 2: Khor Virap – Ararat – Noravank – Tatev
- Early morning departure towards Khor Virap Monastery for sunrise photography with Mount Ararat in the background.
- Continue south through the Ararat Valley, with photography stops along the way for spring landscapes, flowering fields and Mount Ararat. The exact locations will be selected according to the flowering conditions.
- Continue into Vayots Dzor.
- Lunch at a local winery with wine tasting.
- Photography at Noravank Monastery, surrounded by the dramatic red cliffs of the Amaghu Gorge.
- Continue south towards Tatev.
- Arrival in the evening.
- Overnight in Tatev.
Day 3: Tatev – Goris – Yeghegis
- Early morning photography of Tatev Monastery and the surrounding mountains in the first light of the day.
- Breakfast and a short rest.
- Continue through the landscapes of Syunik towards Goris, making photography stops along the way.
- Lunch in Goris.
- Time to photograph Goris and its distinctive rock formations.
- Continue north with a stop at Shaki Waterfall for landscape photography.
- Arrival in the mountain village of Yeghegis in the evening.
- Overnight in a small hotel with views of the surrounding mountains.
Day 4: Smbataberd Fortress — Lake Sevan — Yerevan
- After breakfast, departure by 4×4 vehicle towards Smbataberd Fortress, situated high above the valleys and mountains of Vayots Dzor.
- Time for landscape and architectural photography at the fortress.
- Continue through a scenic mountain pass towards Lake Sevan.
- Photography stops along the shore to capture the spring landscapes of the lake and surrounding mountains.
- Visit Noratus, known for its remarkable collection of medieval khachkars — Armenian cross-stones.
- Lunch.
- Return to Yerevan in the evening.
- Overnight in Yerevan.
Day 5: Garni — Geghard
- Very early departure from Yerevan to a specially selected viewpoint for sunrise photography of Mount Ararat.
- Continue towards Garni Temple, with time for architectural and landscape photography.
- Descend into Garni Gorge to photograph the Symphony of Stones, an impressive natural formation of basalt columns.
- Continue to Geghard Monastery, partly carved into the surrounding rock, with time for exterior and interior photography.
- Lunch.
- Return to Yerevan.
- Transfer to Zvartnots International Airport for departure.
