Description
Five winter days in Armenia — snow-covered peaks of Mount Ararat and Mount Aragats, colorful sunrises, ancient monasteries among the mountains and the special winter light that makes getting up long before sunrise worthwhile. This short photo tour is designed for travelers who want to see and photograph Armenia during one of its most atmospheric and beautiful seasons.
We will photograph Mount Ararat at sunrise and from Khor Virap, the four-peaked Mount Aragats and Kasagh Gorge from Saghmosavank, Noravank among its red cliffs, winter Lake Sevan, Dilijan and Haghartsin. The journey also includes Garni, Geghard and the Symphony of Stones, together with Armenian wine and traditional winter khash.
It may be only five days, but each one is planned around beautiful landscapes, interesting light and carefully selected locations for winter photography.
Program
Day 1: Yerevan
- Arrival in Yerevan.
- Meeting at Zvartnots International Airport and transfer to the hotel.
- Sightseeing tour of Yerevan, with the first opportunities for street and architectural photography.
- Welcome dinner.
- Free time.
- Overnight in Yerevan.
Day 2: Saghmosavank – Mount Aragats
- Early morning departure towards Saghmosavank Monastery, dramatically situated above the Kasagh Gorge.
- Photography of the monastery and Kasagh Gorge, with views towards Mount Ararat in clear weather.
- Continue towards Mount Aragats to photograph its snow-covered peaks and surrounding winter landscapes.
- Lunch featuring khash, one of Armenia’s traditional winter dishes.
- Return to Yerevan and rest.
- In the late afternoon, departure to a location selected for sunset photography, depending on the weather and light conditions.
- Overnight in Yerevan.
Day 3: Khor Virap – Noravank – Areni
- Early morning departure towards Khor Virap Monastery, one of the classic locations for photographing Mount Ararat.
- Time for photography of the monastery with Mount Ararat in the background, weather permitting.
- Continue into Vayots Dzor towards Noravank Monastery, surrounded by the dramatic red cliffs of the Amaghu Gorge.
- Time for landscape and architectural photography at Noravank.
- Continue to Areni, one of Armenia’s best-known wine regions.
- Lunch with local hosts, followed by a visit to a local winery and wine tasting.
- Return to Yerevan in the evening.
- Overnight in Yerevan.
Day 4: Sevan – Dilijan
- After breakfast, departure towards Lake Sevan.
- Time for photography of Lake Sevan and its winter landscapes.
- Continue towards Dilijan, surrounded by the forested mountains of Tavush.
- Photography in the historic part of Dilijan and the surrounding winter landscapes.
- Continue to Haghartsin Monastery, hidden among the forests of Dilijan National Park.
- Lunch.
- Return to Yerevan in the evening.
Day 5: Ararat – Garni – Geghard
- Early morning departure from Yerevan to a specially selected viewpoint for sunrise photography of Mount Ararat.
- Continue towards Garni Temple and photograph the ancient temple and surrounding winter landscapes.
- Descend into Garni Gorge to photograph the Symphony of Stones, an impressive natural formation of basalt columns.
- Late breakfast.
- Continue to Geghard Monastery, partly carved into the surrounding rock, with time for exterior and interior photography.
- Return to Yerevan.
- Transfer to Zvartnots International Airport for departure.
