Description
Four days in Armenia are enough to discover surprisingly different sides of the country. Explore the streets of Yerevan, admire Mount Ararat from Khor Virap, travel through the red-rock landscapes of Noravank and discover Armenia’s ancient winemaking traditions in Areni.
The journey continues to Lake Sevan and the forested mountains of Dilijan, as well as Garni Temple and the rock-carved monastery of Geghard. Along the way, taste Armenian wine and local cuisine, see traditional lavash being baked in a tonir, and experience the landscapes and hospitality that make Armenia such a distinctive destination.
This compact four-day itinerary is an excellent choice for a first visit to Armenia, combining history, nature, gastronomy and some of the country’s most important landmarks.
Program
Day 1: Yerevan
- Arrival at Zvartnots International Airport.
- Meeting at the airport and transfer to the hotel in Yerevan.
- Check-in and time to rest.
- In the afternoon, guided sightseeing tour of Yerevan, including the city center, main landmarks and an introduction to the history and architecture of the Armenian capital.
- In the evening, welcome dinner with Armenian cuisine.
- Overnight in Yerevan.
Day 2: Sevan – Dilijan – Haghartsin
- After breakfast, departure from Yerevan to Lake Sevan, one of Armenia’s most famous natural landmarks.
- Visit Sevanavank Monastery, located on a peninsula overlooking the lake, with panoramic views of Sevan and the surrounding mountains.
- Continue to Dilijan, a mountain resort surrounded by the forests of Dilijan National Park. Walk through the historic part of the town and enjoy its distinctive architecture and atmosphere.
- After lunch, continue through the forests of Dilijan National Park to Haghartsin Monastery, a medieval monastic complex surrounded by wooded mountains.
- Return to Yerevan in the evening.
- Overnight in Yerevan.
Day 3: Khor Virap – Noravank – Areni
- After breakfast, departure from Yerevan towards Khor Virap Monastery, one of Armenia’s most important pilgrimage sites. The monastery is closely associated with Gregory the Illuminator and the adoption of Christianity in Armenia. On a clear day, Khor Virap offers a spectacular view of Mount Ararat.
- Continue through the landscapes of Vayots Dzor to Noravank Monastery, surrounded by impressive red cliffs at the end of a narrow gorge.
- Next stop is Areni-1 Cave, an important archaeological site where evidence of one of the world’s earliest known winemaking facilities was discovered.
- Depending on the selected tour package, the day also includes a visit to a local winery with wine tasting and lunch.
- Return to Yerevan in the evening.
- Overnight in Yerevan.
Day 4: Garni – Geghard
- After breakfast, departure from Yerevan to Geghard Monastery, a medieval monastic complex surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery. Part of the monastery is carved directly into the rock.
- Continue to Garni Temple, Armenia’s best-preserved monument from the pre-Christian period.
- The tour continues into the Azat River Gorge to visit the Symphony of Stones, an impressive natural formation of basalt columns.
- Lunch at a local restaurant or family-run venue, followed by a demonstration of traditional Armenian lavash making in a tonir.
- Return to Yerevan.
