Description

Mount Aragats is the highest mountain in modern-day Armenia and one of the country’s best destinations for a real mountain adventure. This extinct volcano has a vast crater and four summits, the highest being the North Summit at 4,090 meters.

We offer a one-day ascent of the South Summit of Mount Aragats (3,879 m). From Yerevan, the route begins with a drive to the high-altitude Lake Kari, located at approximately 3,200 meters, where the hiking part of the tour starts.

The trail leads through the rugged volcanic landscapes of Aragats. On a clear day, the summit offers impressive views across Armenia, including Mount Ararat, the Geghama Mountains, Mount Ara and the surrounding highlands.

The South Summit does not require mountaineering experience, but good physical condition is recommended. For experienced hikers, we can also organize a separate ascent of the more challenging North Summit of Mount Aragats.


Recommended season: June – October, depending on weather conditions.

Program

Yerevan – Aragats – Yerevan

  • Morning departure from Yerevan towards Mount Aragats, the highest mountain in Armenia.
  • Drive up the slopes of Aragats to Lake Kari, located at approximately 3,200 meters above sea level.
  • The hiking part of the tour begins from Lake Kari and takes approximately 5–6 hours, including around 3 hours of ascent and 2–3 hours of descent, depending on the pace of the group and mountain conditions.
  • The trail leads through the high-altitude volcanic landscapes of Mount Aragats, with panoramic views opening along the route.
  • On a clear day, it is possible to see Mount Ararat, the Geghama Mountains, Mount Ara and the surrounding Armenian highlands.
  • Picnic lunch in the mountains.
  • After the descent, return to Lake Kari and drive back to Yerevan.
