Description

Two days is an ideal format for a journey to Jermuk, as the road through Vayots Dzor becomes an important part of the experience itself. Ancient monasteries, dramatic cliffs, wineries and mountain landscapes accompany the journey before reaching the high-altitude resort of Jermuk, known for its mineral springs.

The first day includes Khor Virap, Noravank and Areni-1 Cave, followed by a winery visit with wine tasting and lunch. In the evening, the journey reaches Jermuk, with time to walk through the resort town and taste its famous mineral water.

The following day includes Jermuk Waterfall, while those looking for a more adventurous experience can take a 4×4 trip into the mountains to the Jermuk geysers.

For a journey to Jermuk, we recommend the two-day tour: it turns the long drive into part of the experience and allows enough time to discover both the resort itself and the main highlights of Vayots Dzor.

Program

Day 1: Khor Virap – Noravank – Areni – Jermuk

  • Morning departure from Yerevan.
  • Visit to Khor Virap Monastery, closely associated with Gregory the Illuminator and Armenia’s adoption of Christianity. On clear days, the monastery offers impressive views of Mount Ararat.
  • Continue to Areni-1 Cave, an important archaeological site known for discoveries connected with early winemaking.
  • Visit to Noravank Monastery, dramatically located among the red cliffs of Vayots Dzor.
  • Continue to a local winery for a tour, wine tasting and lunch, depending on the selected rate.
  • Departure to Jermuk.
  • Arrival and hotel accommodation.
  • Evening walk through the resort town, including the Mineral Water Gallery, with an opportunity to taste Jermuk’s mineral waters.
  • Overnight in Jermuk.

Day 2: Jermuk – Yerevan

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Visit to Jermuk Waterfall, one of the best-known natural landmarks of the region.
  • Free time for a walk and relaxation in Jermuk.
  • For those looking for a more active experience, an optional 4×4 trip to the Jermuk geysers can be arranged.
  • Return to Yerevan.
