The 7th meeting of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) with the Ministers of Tourism of the countries of the Silk Road, which was devoted to the most important issues of tourism development in the region known for its historical objects of cultural heritage, was held at the ITB Berlin 2017 in Berlin these days. which go beyond the borders of individual countries and a beautiful natural landscape.
The participants of the meeting noted that considering that 2017 was declared the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development by the United Nations, there are excellent opportunities to increase the contribution of the tourism sector to three components of sustainable development: economic, social and environmental – while raising awareness of the real scale of the sector, which is often underestimated.
In its heyday, the Silk Road was the largest supply chain on the world level. For more than two millennia, the Silk Road has contributed to the overall prosperity and development of mankind. Today, the Silk Road is an important tool to promote intercultural dialogue that fosters harmony, solidarity and peace in the region. Working together, we can build on our strengths in their totality and build a happy future for all – said Taleb Rifai, Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
