Today Armenia marks the 24th anniversary of independence.
The declaration on Armenia’s independence was adopted at the first session of the Supreme Council of Armenia on August 23, 1990. This document abolished the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic and proclaimed the independent Republic of Armenia.
On the decision of the Supreme Council of Armenia on September 21, 1991, a referendum was held on the withdrawal from the USSR and the establishment of an independent statehood; 94.99% of citizens who have the right to vote in the republic answered this question in the affirmative. Two days later the Supreme Council of the Republic proclaimed Armenia an independent, independent state.

Various festive events are planned across the country.
