Seven days in Armenia offer time not simply to see the country’s most famous landmarks, but to feel its changing landscapes, flavors and atmosphere. Sometimes, to discover one of the most beautiful sides of Armenia, all it takes is leaving the paved road behind and heading high into the mountains. That is exactly what our Jeep Tour to Mount Dimats is about — one of the most exciting one-day adventures around Dilijan.

Traveling by 4×4 vehicles, we follow the mountain roads of Tavush and climb towards Mount Dimats, with impressive views of the surrounding cliffs, forests and mountains. Along the way, there are alpine meadows, small mountain settlements and, with a little luck, the famous wild horses that roam freely in this area.

High in the mountains, we stop for a picnic with beautiful panoramic views, before continuing to Haghartsin Monastery, hidden among the dense forests of Dilijan National Park.

The seven-day expedition begins in Yerevan and crosses Georgia into eastern Turkey, with a visit to the medieval Armenian city of Ani before reaching Doğubayazıt at the foot of Mount Ararat. The ascent then takes several days, with mountain camps at approximately 3,200 and 4,200 meters, before an early-morning summit attempt.

Standing on the summit after hours of climbing, surrounded by an immense mountain panorama, is the moment everything has been leading towards. The descent is followed by time to discover Ishak Pasha Palace, Lake Van, Akhtamar Island and Kars, adding history and culture to the mountain experience.
